Flood Control
The Willow Waterhole Greenway detention basin is a large complex of interconnected lakes that helps reduce flooding in the Brays Bayou watershed. The six lakes store excess stormwater from Willow Waterhole Bayou that might otherwise flood the surrounding area. When the bayou water recedes, the basin’s water is slowly released back into the bayou.
Creation of the basin complex began 20 years ago after years of planning, as ideas about controlling stormwater evolved and flooding in Harris County worsened. Today the completed Willow Waterhole Greenway, with its carefully engineered interconnected lakes and hills, has become a beacon of hope for more effective flood control and a safer community.
